About DeathUS
DeathUS explains death in the United States: what to do when someone dies, what happens to their accounts and debts, how long people live, and what the numbers say. It is written for people who have just lost someone, for people planning ahead, and for anyone who is curious.
Where the numbers come from
The data comes from public sources, mostly the National Center for Health Statistics at the CDC. Each chart names its source and year, and every guide lists the pages it relies on. Our data and methods page explains how the tools turn that data into estimates.
What we don't do
We don't give legal, medical or financial advice, and we don't sell funerals or anything else. The tools never ask for your name or email, and what you type into them stays in your browser.
How the site is paid for
DeathUS is free to read. Some pages link to EverSettled, an estate settlement service run by the same company as DeathUS. Those links and boxes are labeled "Sponsored", as they are across our sites. Pages about grief and the end of life have no ads.
Who runs it
DeathUS is run by Kempster Berger Inc., which also runs FuneralUS, ProbateUS, VeteranFunerals, Cheap Funeral and FunerariaCerca.
